TRY JUST ONE MORE TIME FOR A BETTER LIFE

Sunday, August 24, 2025

The most fantastic way of living your life is not in falling or failing, but in trying again with more enthusiasm and energy. So true? This has been the guiding principle of all iconic persons who achieved even the unimaginable successes to create a new history. In fact, there is no alternative to keep on trying and trying well. Just think, if you stop trying or not trying willingly, then you yourself will write the story of your failure. To say, you could know the result well before your examination or test.

There is a famous saying which we have been hearing since our early childhood days from our parents, elders, teachers and even friends that try, try again, if you do not succeed; try, try again. Interestingly, it is said by many great saints and thinkers in different ways that even God doesn't require us to succeed; He only requires that we try sincerely.

If you look around you will find that some of your colleagues or friends or neighbours who achieved good success during the previous years are now not able to get such kind of success. It is because they are now lacking in putting up similar or better efforts. On the contrary some persons who were not figuring in achievers’ list earlier, are now in the limelight by registering success after success as they didn’t stop trying their best silently and consistently without getting disturbed or distracted by momentary failures or setbacks. To say, when you try your best and succeed, it is certainly a matter of joy. But if you fail for any reason, take it as the new learning experience. In no case your efforts go in vain and it is always far better to have tried and failed than failing to try.

Have you observed the perseverance of even the smallest creatures like ants, spiders and honey bees towards completing the set task? If not, just observe and enjoy it. The commitment towards their work and their consistent efforts despite certain setbacks or failures are really very inspiring. You can find several stories in history books of some kings or warriors who rose again, after losing one or more battles, to fight back with more vigour and determination by taking inspiration from the lives of ants, spiders, bees and such tiny creatures. One such famous story is about King Robert Bruce of Scotland and the little spider. Actually, King Bruce lost six battles and was naturally feeling depressed and dejected. While passing through that difficult phase of life he happened to notice a spider trying to spin her web up on the ceiling. The spider was failing to succeed every time, but trying again to complete the task. King Bruce was curiously watching that activity and could see that the spider finally succeeded to spin the web due to her perseverance and hard work. That incident inspired and motivated King Bruce and filled him with new hope and courage to try one more time to fight against his enemy. Eventually King Bruce reorganised his army and won the battle decisively to regain his kingdom.

Hope you also know about the real life story of Dasarath Manjhi - an ordinary labourer from Gehlaur village of Bihar’s Gaya district, who is now widely known as the Mountain Man. Barely through a hammer and a chisel he kept on trying hard for nearly 22 years to cut a mountain and finally succeeded in carving out a 360 feet long and thirty feet wide road thereby creating history of making an almost impossible task possible for the benefit of thousands of common people of that area. In recognition of his incredible commitment and untiring efforts, the Government of India issued a postage stamp in 2016 featuring the great Dashrath Manjhi.

Here it is noteworthy that when we are in a trying mode, we need to have utmost faith in our capacity and potential to march towards the right goal. Swami Vivekananda underlines the importance of faith in our life in these words, "The ideal of faith in ourselves is of the greatest help to us. Throughout the history of mankind, if any motive power has been more potent than another in the lives of all great men and women, it is that of faith in themselves. All the difference between man and man is owing to the existence or non-existence of faith in himself. Faith in ourselves will do everything. I have experienced it in my own life… …"

Finally, let us enjoy the golden words of the famous scientist and inventor, Thomas Alva Edison: "Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time."

As always, I'm keen to know what you think on this subject. Hence, I request you to post your comments to share your valuable opinion.   (hellomilansinha@gmail.com)
