In our country there is no dearth of talent and potential. We have the largest youth force in the world as well. Likewise, there are many other strong points that contribute significantly towards the country's fast progress. In today’s world of information-communication-technological revolution, a large number of news-views-data are received by us every second. This has become possible due to easy and affordable access to mobile and internet. But the growing amount of undesirable, false and obscene materials available mainly on social media is causing grave concern for every citizen, particularly children and youth as it impacts their mental and physical health severely. All responsible citizens feel bad about it.
All human beings are basically sensitive to varying degrees and also have immense mental power and courage. Our ancient scriptures do have several real-life examples to prove this fact. Even in the modern times the innumerable persons who achieved unimaginable success proved truly the views of Swami Vivekananda that all powers are within you; you can do anything and everything. In computer learning, it is taught that garbage in and garbage out. Almost the same principle applies to the functioning of our mental computer. If you allow the worthless things to enter and remain in your mind, it will definitely reflect in your actions and behaviour. That is why the importance of education and good learning has been emphasised in every society to ensure development of better understanding and wisdom.
Notwithstanding all these facts, it is disturbing to note that a growing number of people are allowing the negative and undesirable things to enter their mind and thus make their mind a dustbin or a garbage house. Ironically, it is contrary to our age-old culture and tradition of cleanliness in all spheres of life. Anyway, the situation is undesirable, but it is not very difficult to protect ourselves from falling into this trap. Undoubtedly, a sustained measure is to be taken to arrest this harmful process and elders including teachers and social activists have to play a very important role. Yes, the first positive change should start from the self.
Firstly, you must think and decide as to what is going into your mind, whether that is good for you or not. That only you can make out. It is because some of the things that go to your mind stay there and keep you engaged unnecessarily. This is sheer wastage of your time and energy which you even fail to understand. It is also worth considering that these negative things are coming to you from which source and how your own friends, relatives or colleagues contribute to that. To say, it is necessary to analyse and understand the whole cycle of negativity on an ongoing basis so as to identify the major sources and then to block the entry right at the gate of your mind. It is said that wise people have the auto-scanner installed in their mind to identify the negative thoughts and say it a good bye then and there.
Another necessary point is to identify those thoughts or inputs which
create serious confusion and mental problems. Once it is done, then you can
very well try to find the remedy. It is not difficult. Yes, it is desirable to
start your day with a solid positive note. Wake up early and remember your
ideal – parents, mentors, teachers or anybody else, with full respect and
admiration. Now, close your eyes and visualise all your body parts starting
from head to toes and thank the almighty for keeping you so blessed to have all
the body parts so active and performing. Thereafter, watch the rising sun and
feel that the divine light is entering your body to light up and drive out
darkness. Believe me these four-five minutes of Thank and Think exercise would
fill you with lots of hope, energy, enthusiasm and positive vibrations. It is
now time to start executing your day’s plan of action very mindfully. Why very
mindfully? It is because you never know when again a negative thought or an
unwanted person comes in your way. At that point of time, if you are mindful,
it becomes easy to get rid of or manage that issue at the earliest in order to
return to your own positive zone. With regular practice of this mental
exercise, it would become easier to keep your mind reasonably clean. Reading
any motivational or spiritual book or article and meditating for only 5-10
minutes before nightly sleep will give you additional benefits.
As always, I'm keen to know what you think on this subject. Hence, I request you to post your comments to share your valuable opinion. (hellomilansinha@gmail.com)
