Bringing
up their children in the best possible manner has been the most cherished
desire of all parents. It is natural not only for ensuring the better present
and future of the children, but also for the parents, family, society, country
and the world at large. If today’s children are raised properly by all
stakeholders, they will definitely be good citizens who can face the different
challenges of their lives in a better way and can also contribute to
strengthening the family, society and the country in so many ways. To say, it
requires conscious efforts to follow some practices by the parents regularly as
a matter of daily routine for the children to emulate them automatically. Many
studies and surveys have shown that children keenly watch and observe what
parents do in their day-to-day life and try to act likewise. So, practicing
good things is far better and more impactful than preaching, teaching or
scolding. Surely, there are many things to practice in this respect, but
these six points must be practiced in the family for the good of all including
parents and children.
1.Morning
shows the day: Getting up
early has multiple benefits that all parents know. When you awake early in the
morning and start the day’s activities in the right earnest, you very well set
an example for your child to do it and reap the benefits. On the contrary, if you
get up late but tell your child about the benefits of waking up early, it
hardly impresses the child.
2.Think
and act right: If you think and
act right based on your inner conviction, it will reflect in your behaviour.
Gradually, your children start doing like this. For example, if you are in the
habit of addressing any difficult situation without fear or stress and are
achieving success, it will create an imprint in the minds of your children and
in the process of their development, they will also face a difficult situation
with that mindset.
3.Good
Learning habits: Living and
learning mindfully are excellent. It is a continuous process. Your learning
habit keeps you ahead of several people in many ways. And there is so much to
learn from individuals and of course from nature. Children have a huge learning
capacity and appetite. If parents, elders and teachers practice creativity and
promote innovation at home and in schools, it becomes a natural learning habit
for the children which helps them throughout their life in
different ways.
4.Cleanliness
& self-dependence: Every
parent normally tells their child to practice cleanliness and self-dependence.
But if the children find filth and dirt in their own house mainly due to the
normal habit of the elders, they find no conviction or truth in what the
parents say or preach. On the other hand, if the children find their parents
engaged in cleaning activities daily as a matter of habit, they follow it
automatically. Doing their own things like keeping the study table clean and
organised, keeping the wardrobe arranged, washing clothes, brushing shoes or
such things prepare them to be self-dependent which shape their life
beautifully.
5.Living
healthy, happy and blessed: Who
does not want to live healthy, happy and blessed? Is it very difficult? Not at
all. Here again, the parents need to set an example. How? Practice yourself and
put in place a routine for daily exercise, healthy eating, spending some
quality time together after dinner or on spare time, taking care of elders and
seeking their blessings and other similar things. Yes, the culture of sharing
and caring plays a vital role in everybody’s life in a positive manner.
6.Attitude to help and thank: The attitude to help others is a very important quality. There is lots to learn from nature in this regard. And the attitude of thanking all those who helped you in time of need keeps you grounded and humble. The children emulate these traits during their formative age when they see their parents actually practising it as a matter of habit.
As always, I'm keen to know what you think on this subject. Hence, I request you to post your comments to share your valuable opinion. (hellomilansinha@gmail.com)
