During
my motivation and wellness sessions, school-college-university students often
ask me the question as to how one can achieve success in this critical phase of
life - student life. The answer is simple but worth noting. In order to achieve
success on a regular basis one has to include all the good traits or qualities
in one’s habit and working style so that it can be naturally and properly used
in any situation. However, keeping in view an examination or a test or for that
matter any event in life, the students can get success by adopting the ‘4-P’
formula. What is this ‘4-P’ formula all about? Here
the 4-P stands for Passion, Planning, Preparation and Performance. Let us dwell
on this subject a bit elaborately to understand its huge significance.
Passion: American
writer and speaker Eric Thomas says “I need no alarm clock, my
passion wakes me up.” Great spiritual thinker Swami Vivekananda says
it with more clarity and conviction, “Take up one idea. Make that one idea your
life or passion – think of it, dream of it, and live on that idea. Let the
brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just
leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success.” It’s absolutely
correct. When any student takes the study passionately, there is no question of
not getting better results in any examination or competition. All students must
be aware of the amount of passion the founder of the famous Apple Company, Mr
Steve Jobs had towards his work or profession.
Planning: Hopefully, the significance of planning is known to all. Everybody knows its value, but how much? This is the moot question. Many management experts in their own way accepted the fact that if you want to move forward in life without any planning, you are moving with a definite plan to fail. Famous management expert and trainer Dale Carnegie says, “An hour of planning can save you ten hours of doing.” You too must have noticed a few people around you who fail to achieve simple goals in life despite putting up hard labour. The reason is nothing but lack of planning. Hence, it is very necessary to embark on any important work or task with a full-proof meticulous planning.
Preparation: Without
right preparation, you can’t think of success in any endeavour. Undeniably,
incomplete preparation can only deliver incomplete results. Right preparation
does mean that you move towards your goal with full preparation based on your
planning. Taking up any task with this idea in mind and acting accordingly can
be, over a period of time, your habit of addressing any issue or task in life.
Obviously, this habit will go a long way in ensuring success in almost every test
or competition. Renowned inventor and scientist Alexander Graham
Bell says, “Before anything else, preparation is the key
to success.”
Performance: Ultimately, your performance tells about your passion, planning and preparation. To say, despite your passion, planning and preparation being really up to the mark, still at the performance level if you fail for any reason whatsoever, then the final result or outcome can well be anticipated. So, it is imperative on your part to ensure best of performance at all times. At this point of time, it is better to keep in mind the golden words of famous industrialist and management master Henry Ford, “There is no man living who isn’t capable of doing more than he thinks he can do.”
As always, I am keen to know what you think on this subject. Hence, request you to post Comments to share your views and experiences.
