It is rightly said and well accepted that the fruits of hard work are very sweet and satisfying. The strong relationship between hard work and matching results is also well-known. You can find several average rated people to register phenomenal success in their life by virtue of consistent hard work. Equally true is the fact that many talented people don’t get the desired result as they fail to do the hard work.
We all have read and listened to the classical story of a race
between a very fast runner rabbit and a slow-moving tortoise. The inspiring
lesson of the story is that consistently doing hard work guarantees you success
in life. The former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher says, “I do not
know anyone who has got to the top without hard work. That is the
recipe.”
Recently during the visit of our Prime Minister to Italy, the Italian Prime Minister quoted a Hindi proverb in her joint press meet speech, “parishram hi safalta ki kunji hai” as used very often in India to convey that hard work is the key to success. Absolutely correct.
It is simply not possible to achieve success
without putting in hard work in any field of activity. From cricket to
football, from music to dance, from medical science to space science, the story
of all the people who excelled in any particular field is the same and similar.
The famous American professional football coach Vincent Thomas Lombardi says
that leaders are not born, they are made. And they are made just like anything
else, through hard work. And that is the price we will have to pay to achieve
any goal.
Before moving
forward to discuss this subject further, it is appropriate to take a look at
the lives of two great sons of Mother India who by dint of their hard work and
sincerity not only created history in public life, but also made our country
very proud. Firstly, let us know about the second Prime Minister of the country
Lal Bahadur Shastri. He lost his father when he was only two years old. Due to
financial constraints, he used to go barefoot to his school which was a few
miles away from his home even in adverse weather conditions - whether it was
too hot in summer or too cold in winter. Nevertheless, he set an example in
respect of his capacity and competence; sincerity and simplicity by following
the path of hard work not only during the freedom struggle, but also during the
period when he was central minister in more than one ministry and also as the
Prime Minister of the country. In reply to a question, he once said, “Hard work
was like a prayer which I tried to do with full sincerity and integrity.
The life of famous
scientist and former President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam is equally very
inspiring. During the school days, his daily routine did include distributing
newspapers in the morning, doing household jobs and then going to school. Whether
it was studies, scientific research, administrative and constitutional
responsibilities, delivering public speech and suggesting something unique and
worthwhile to students and common people, he always fulfilled his
responsibilities extremely well through his consistent hard work, sincerity and
integrity. Even as the 11th President of the country, he used
to remain very engaged for the betterment of society and the country. In the
course of his conversation and deliberation with the young people, he used to
motivate them nicely to put in hard work.
The co-founder of the world-famous Apple Company Steve Jobs opines that no success comes overnight; it requires long years of hard work. How true? We all need to understand this well. Then only, we will be committed to consistent hard work by utilising our precious time. It is applicable to all people engaged either in study, sports, trade, business or any other vocation. The famous American writer, anchor and producer Maria Bartiromo asserts, “I think that my biggest attribute to any success that I have had is hard work. There really is no substitute for working hard.”
Interestingly, those who enjoy doing hard work boldly face all small or big challenges of life; try their best to solve the problems; keep on practising and testing their capacity and preparations. They are also in the habit of reviewing their activities and outcomes regularly for making course corrections and improvements from time to time in order to come out with flying colours in all the tests and examinations.
As always, I'm keen to know what you think on this subject. Hence, I request you to post your comments to share your valuable opinion. (hellomilansinha@gmail.com)
